ICE CONQUER GRIZZLIES IN FIRST DIVISION VICTORY

 

Colorado ICE Beat Fairbanks Grizzlies 61-30

 

FORT COLLINS, CO With tensions running high, the ICE (2-2) overpowered the Fairbanks Grizzlies (2-2) in front of their home crowd this Saturday, April 18th 2009, taking over 2nd place in the Pacific Division.

The game started with a score on the first play from scrimmage when ICE DL Steve Fry recovered a fumble and returned it 9 yards for a touchdown at the 14:23 mark. Later in the first quarter ICE’s Wayne Wilder scored from one yard out at the 13:04 mark of the second quarter, making it 14-0. The Grizzlies answered back in the second quarter, first with a 3-yd touchdown pass by QB Justin Rummell to WR Josh Crawford at the 10:16 mark, then a safety by DL Asi Faoa at the 9:16 mark, and a 2-yd touchdown pass by Rummell to WR Lonnie Sanders at the 6:23 mark, taking the lead 15 to 14. ICE QB Justin Holland struck back at the 4:55 mark with a 48-yd touchdown pass to WR Josh Gibson. ICE RB Terry Washington also scored a touchdown (1-yd run) at the 0:16 mark. Grizzlies K Brian Stuvek ended the 1st half with a 38-yd field goal, making the score 27-18 ICE.

The ICE defense dominated the second half, holding the Grizzlies scoreless in the 3rd quarter. At the 10:37 mark, Washington ran 11 yards for a touchdown, Gibson returned a kick 56 yards for another touchdown at the 7:14 mark, and RB Eugene Reed ran 6 yards for his first touchdown at the 1:25 mark, making the score 48-18. The fourth quarter saw numerous flags as pressure between the teams built. The Grizzlies scored at the 8:34 mark with a 1-yd pass from Rummell to Crawford. ICE Holland came back with an 11-yd pass to DB Joey Rucks at the 7:10 mark. The Grizzlies final score of the game was a pass from Rummell to WR Jaray Austin with 4:49 left. ICE QB Miles Scheer made the final score 61-30 with a 17-yd touchdown run at the 3:50 mark.

The ICE travel to Anchorage, AK next Sunday 4/26 to play the Alaska Wild. The next ICE home game is Saturday, May 2nd at 7 pm at the Budweiser Events Center against the Omaha Beef.
